Health Minister Veena George will inaugurate various projects completed at a cost of Rs 50 crore at Konni Medical College on Saturday, January 17 at 11 am. KU Janeesh Kumar MLA will preside.

The minister is dedicating to the nation the Academic Block Phase II, Administrative Block, constructed at a cost of Rs. 22.80 crore through KIIFB, Type D Quarters with 40 apartments constructed at a cost of Rs. 16.25 crore, Type B Quarters with 40 apartments constructed at a cost of Rs. 9.10 crore, Dean’s Villa built on two floors at a cost of Rs. 1.05 crore, and a Medical ICU with 17 beds constructed at a cost of Rs. 84 lakh.

During this government’s tenure, Konni Medical College has been approved and major development works are being carried out. The second phase of development work worth Rs. 351.72 crore is being carried out by including it in KIIFB. Construction work on Type A and C quarters, Hospital Block II, Auditorium, etc. is progressing rapidly. Currently, 400 medical students are studying in four batches. Konni Medical College is becoming a center of excellence that can ensure modern standards of treatment and education.

30 beds with oxygen support and minor operation theatre system were prepared in the emergency department. College bus was allocated. Pediatric ICU was set up at a cost of Rs. 16.68 lakhs. Labor room was set up at a cost of Rs. 3.5 crores as per the target plan. Nursing college was started in Pathanamthitta with 60 seats. Blood bank was made a reality at a cost of Rs. 2.74 crores. The first state-of-the-art 128 slice CT scan in the district was set up at a cost of Rs. 5 crores. Girls hostel was set up at a cost of Rs. 13.66 crores and boys hostel at a cost of Rs. 11.99 crores. 38 more posts were created in December 2023. Konni Medical College served as the base hospital in connection with the Sabarimala Makaravilakku festival.
