Kochi: Ten-month-old Alin Sherin Abraham, who gave new life to four people before saying goodbye, is leaving. The car in which Alin, her mother, and her mother’s parents were traveling was hit by a vehicle coming from the opposite direction.
The accident took place on February 5 at around 2.30 pm near the Pallam Borma Kavala junction on M.C. Road. The child, who was seriously injured in the accident, was admitted to hospitals in Changanassery and Thiruvalla. He was then taken to Amrita Hospital in Kochi for specialist treatment on the night of February 6. However, despite the doctors’ best efforts, the child could not be brought back to life. The doctors confirmed his brain death by the afternoon of the previous day.
The organ donation process was coordinated through the government-run K-SOTTO system with the consent of the child’s father. The heart valve donated by Alin will be sent to the Thiruvananthapuram Sree Chitra Institute, the liver to the Thiruvananthapuram KIMS Hospital, and the kidney to the Thiruvananthapuram Medical College. The child’s eyes will also be donated to the eye bank.
The parents’ decision to donate their child’s organs, despite intense pain, is setting a great example.
