M. B. Rajesh said that the state-of-the-art Palakkad Sports Hub, being developed by the Kerala Cricket Association (KCA) on land owned by the Sree Chathankulangara Bhagavathy Devaswom Trust, will significantly transform the district’s profile. He was speaking after inaugurating the construction of the project.

The Minister stated that once the stadium becomes a reality, it will trigger large-scale allied development activities in the surrounding areas and help expand the city’s growth further into the Akathethara region.

Key Features of the Project

Estimated cost: ₹30 crore

Two cricket grounds

Floodlight facilities

Clubhouse

Swimming pool

Basketball and football courts

Land acquired on a 33-year lease agreement

The first phase, which includes the main ground, is expected to be completed within one and a half years, according to KCA officials.

Boost to Sports and Development

Palakkad has a strong sporting legacy and has produced several Ranji Trophy players for Kerala. However, the lack of high-quality sports infrastructure has long been a major shortcoming. The Sports Hub is expected to provide a permanent solution to this issue.

With the completion of two cricket grounds, the district is likely to host more BCCI matches, further strengthening its position in Kerala’s sports map.

Benefits for the Temple Trust

Representatives of the Malabar Devaswom Board noted that such initiatives help:

Protect Devaswom land from encroachment

Generate rightful and sustainable income for the temple

Conclusion

The Palakkad Sports Hub is more than just a stadium—it is a comprehensive development initiative aimed at enhancing sports infrastructure, stimulating economic growth, and elevating Palakkad into one of Kerala’s leading urban centers.
