Rice: About 414.10 lakh ha area coverage under rice has been reported as compared to 428.46 lakh ha during the corresponding period of last year, showing a decrease of 14.36 lakh ha. The major decrease in area coverage has been reported in Karnataka (3.61 lakh ha), Telangana (3.29 lakh ha), Jharkhand (1.82 lakh ha), Madhya Pradesh (1.75 lakh ha), Tamil Nadu (1.22 lakh ha), Maharashtra (1.02 lakh ha), Uttar Pradesh (0.70 lakh ha), etc. The higher area coverage has been reported in Assam (1.21 lakh ha), Haryana (0.15 lakh ha) etc. Overall, the decline in rice area is mainly attributable to substantial reductions in Karnataka, Telangana, Jharkhand, Madhya Pradesh, etc.
Pulses: About 115.05 lakh ha area coverage under pulses has been reported as compared to 113.66 lakh ha during the corresponding period of last year, showing an increase of 1.39 lakh ha. The major increase in area coverage has been reported in Uttar Pradesh (3.97 lakh ha), Jharkhand (0.93 lakh ha), Telangana (0.88 lakh ha), Rajasthan (0.57 lakh ha), Andhra Pradesh (0.51 lakh ha), Madhya Pradesh (0.38 lakh ha), etc.. On the other hand, the major decrease in area coveragehas been reported in Maharashtra (2.61 lakh ha), Karnataka (2.34 lakh ha), Odisha (0.68 lakh ha), etc.. Overall, the increase in pulses area is mainly attributable to substantial gains in Uttar Pradesh, Jharkhand, Telangana, Rajasthan, Andhra Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh, which more than offset the declines reported in Maharashtra, Karnataka and Odisha.
Shri Anna & Coarse Cereals: About 177.90 lakh ha area coverage under Shri Anna & Coarse Cereals has been reported as compared to 182.11 lakh ha during the corresponding period of last year, showing a decrease of 4.21 lakh ha.The major decrease in area coverage has been reported in Karnataka (7.16 lakh ha), Maharashtra (2.41 lakh ha), Haryana (0.77 lakh ha), Andhra Pradesh (0.60 lakh ha), etc. The higher area coverage has been reported in Rajasthan (2.75 lakh ha), Chhattisgarh (1.70 lakh ha), Madhya Pradesh (0.80 lakh ha), Bihar (0.63 lakh ha), Uttar Pradesh (0.63 lakh ha), Odisha (0.51 lakh ha), etc. Overall, the decline in area coverage is mainly attributable to substantial reductions in Karnataka, Maharashtra, Haryana and Andhra Pradesh, which have more than offset the gains recorded in Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, Bihar, Uttar Pradesh and Odisha.
Oilseeds: About 190.45 lakh ha area coverage under oilseeds has been reported as compared to 191.45 lakh ha during the corresponding period of last year, showing a decrease of 1.00 lakh ha. The major decrease in area coverage, has been reported in Rajasthan (2.23 lakh ha), Gujarat (1.90 lakh ha), Karnataka (0.48 lakh ha), Maharashtra (0.22 lakh ha), etc.. The higher area coverage, has been reported in Uttar Pradesh (2.91 lakh ha), Madhya Pradesh (1.14), etc.. Overall, the decline in oilseed area is mainly attributable to substantial reductions in Rajasthan and Gujarat, followed by Karnataka, Maharashtra and Odisha, which have more than offset the gains recorded in Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Assam, Telangana and Jharkhand.
Sugarcane: About 58.46 lakh ha area coverage under sugarcane has been reported as compared to 58.87 lakh ha during the corresponding period of last year, showing a decrease of 0.41 lakh ha. The major decrease in area coverage has been reported in Bihar (0.30 lakh ha), Uttarakhand (0.20 lakh ha), etc.The higher area coverage has been reported in Uttar Pradesh (0.36 lakh ha), Haryana (0.21 lakh ha), etc. Overall, the decline in sugarcane area is mainly attributable to substantial reductions in Bihar, Uttarakhand, Maharashtra, Punjab and Madhya Pradesh, which have more than offset the gains recorded in Uttar Pradesh and Haryana, along with smaller increases in Assam, Chhattisgarh and Telangana.
Jute & Mesta: About 6.34 lakh ha area coverage under Jute & Mesta has been reported as compared to 6.23 lakh ha during the corresponding period of last year, showing an increase of 0.10 lakh ha. The major increase in area coverage has been reported in Bihar (0.11 lakh ha), West Bengal (0.06 lakh ha), etc. On the other hand, the decrease in area coverage has been reported in Assam (0.07 lakh ha), Pradesh (0.01 lakh ha) etc., Overall, the increase in Jute & Mesta area is mainly attributable to higher coverage in Bihar and West Bengal, supported by increases in Jharkhand and Meghalaya, which have more than offset the decline reported in Assam and Andhra Pradesh.
Cotton: About 108.80 lakh ha area coverage under cotton has been reported as compared to 109.23 lakh ha during the corresponding period of last year, showing a decrease of 0.43 lakh ha. The major decrease in area coverage has been reported in Rajasthan (1.05 lakh ha), Haryana (0.90 lakh ha), Punjab (0.43 lakh ha) etc. On the other hand, higher area coverage has been reported mainly in Telangana (1.32 lakh ha), Gujarat (0.69 lakh ha), Madhya Pradesh (0.13 lakh ha) etc. Overall, the decline in cotton area is mainly attributable to substantial reductions in Rajasthan and Haryana, along with declines in Punjab and other states, which have more than offset the gains recorded in Telangana and Gujarat.
