In-principle approval has been granted for establishing India’s first Ayurveda Medical College under the Employees’ State Insurance Corporation (ESIC) at Ezhukone in Kottarakkara, Kollam district, according to Kodikkunnil Suresh MP.
The MP stated that the assurance was given after he met Union Labour Minister Mansukh Mandaviya in New Delhi and explained the importance of the project and the suitability of the region.

This will be the first Ayurveda Medical College in the country to function under ESIC, marking a significant step in integrating Kerala’s traditional healthcare system with India’s broader national health policy.
The proposal will be placed before the ESIC Board of Directors for formal approval. The Union Minister has assured that the matter will be considered in the upcoming board meeting.
If implemented, the project is expected to boost higher education and healthcare infrastructure in Kollam district and surrounding areas, while positioning Ezhukone as a national center for health education and research.
