The KSRTC Budget Tourism Cell (BTC) has achieved significant success, with its annual revenue increasing from ₹23 crore in the 2023–24 financial year to ₹43 crore in 2024–25. This achievement was made possible through the successful implementation of innovative and diverse tourism projects.
Key initiatives include the electric double-decker bus service branded as “Thiruvananthapuram City Sightseeing,” the “Royal View” glass-top double-decker service in Munnar, the Kochi Double-Decker City Tour, student-focused tourism packages that combine education and recreation such as Travel to Technology, pilgrimage tourism packages, and interstate tourism packages.
Under the Thiruvananthapuram City Sightseeing package launched in March 2024, KSRTC operated 1,191 services and generated a revenue of ₹2.77 crore, recording an operational profit of ₹2.08 crore. The Royal View glass-top double-decker service in Munnar, launched in February 2025, collected ₹1.18 crore in revenue.
Following its popularity within and outside the state, a second bus named Royal View.2 was introduced from January 2, 2026. The Kochi Double-Decker City Tour, launched in July 2025, enabled 3,712 passengers to enjoy sightseeing across Kochi city. Student tourism programs conducted across schools and colleges generated ₹27 lakh in revenue through 310 trips.
To enhance appeal and expand services, KSRTC introduced specially themed and branded buses for budget tourism, which significantly attracted more passengers. Additionally, temple tourism packages such as Dashavathara Temple Darshan, Nalambalam Darshan, Panchapandava Temple Darshan, and Kripasana packages, along with interstate pilgrimage packages to destinations like Rameswaram and Madurai, continue to generate additional revenue.
KSRTC is also preparing to collaborate with the Guruvayur Devaswom Board for a new pilgrimage tourism package. This package will offer dormitory accommodation and special queue darshan facilities for pilgrims visiting the Guruvayur Temple. Through such diverse and innovative tourism packages, KSRTC aims to ensure high-quality services and sustained revenue growth.
