business100news: Malayali animation filmmaker Suresh Eriyat has earned global recognition as his animated film “Desi Oon” won the Jury Award for Best Commissioned Film at the prestigious Annecy International Animation Film Festival held in France.

With Desi Oon, Suresh Eriyat has brought Indian animation to the global stage. The film is among the rare Indian works to receive an award at Annecy, one of the most respected and influential animation festivals in the world, marking a historic moment for India’s animation industry.

Calling the achievement a great honour, Suresh Eriyat said the film was created after deeply studying the lives and circumstances of shepherd communities.

Set against the backdrop of rural India, Desi Oon beautifully and emotionally visualizes the life of shepherds. The word “Oon” means wool, referring to the indigenous wool obtained from the Deccani Black sheep, a breed found across Karnataka, Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Telangana, and Andhra Pradesh.

The film explores themes of tradition, survival, identity, and the dignity of labour, while presenting India’s rich cultural heritage and indigenous practices to the world. Earlier, Desi Oon had won a Gold Medal at the WAVES Awards, part of the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting’s Create in India Challenge (CIC).

Produced by Studio Eeksaurus, founded by Suresh Eriyat, the film has already garnered attention on multiple international platforms. It was shortlisted at Cannes Lions 2025 and has received accolades such as the Good Ads Matter Award, AICP Show Award, and Curious Creative Awards.
