The claim circulating on social media that a suspected case of bird flu in humans has been reported in India is misleading, according to the Fact Check unit of the Press Information Bureau (PIB), which functions under the Government of India.
Messages spreading on social media suggest that a human case of bird flu has been detected in India. This claim is false. So far, no cases of bird flu in humans have been detected or confirmed in India.
A 35-year-old man who had symptoms of fever and had been in contact with chickens was tested as a precautionary measure. However, his RT-PCR test result was negative.
As his health condition was satisfactory, he was later discharged from the hospital. He has been advised to continue the prescribed treatment and remain in home isolation.
The Press Information Bureau has urged the public not to share such news without official confirmation.
