H.E. Mr Alar Karis, President of the Republic of Estonia met President of India, Smt. Droupadi Murmu at Rashtrapati Bhavan today (February 19, 2026).

Welcoming President Karis on his first visit to India as President of the Republic of Estonia, the President said that warm and friendly relations between India and Estonia are anchored in shared democratic values, respect for international law, and a common commitment to a rules-based global order.

The President noted that Estonia has made immense contributions to the digital and AI world. She said that the participation of Estonia in the AI Impact Summit adds great value to the Summit, particularly given its leadership role in AI and education.

The President said that India and Estonia have a shared conviction that Artificial Intelligence must be a force for global good. In a world of increasing uncertainties, our cooperation in cybersecurity and the safe deployment of AI gains more meaning. She was happy to note that India and Estonia have had meaningful cooperation in the digital sector. She stated that Estonia excels in technology and IT, and India has a vibrant startup ecosystem. Collaboration combining Estonia’s technological expertise with India’s dynamic startups could benefit both countries.

The President said that India-EU relations have now entered a phase of strategic momentum. India deeply values its relations with the EU and its member states. She appreciated Estonia’s support for the successful conclusion of the India-EU Free Trade Agreement. She said that this FTA promises to open new avenues.

The two leaders agreed that there is immense potential for further deepening bilateral cooperation between India and Estonia. They were happy to note the intensification of high-level exchanges, centered around technology, digital governance and trade expansion in recent years. They expressed confidence that this visit will help maintain this positive momentum in our bilateral cooperation.
