Health Minister Veena George has assured that comprehensive safety measures will be ensured for pilgrims participating in the Maramon Convention. She was speaking while chairing a meeting held at the Collectorate Conference Hall to review the arrangements for the convention, which will be held at Maramon Pumpa sandbank from February 8 to 15.
The police will ensure law and order and overall security. Plainclothes police personnel will be deployed at the convention venue, and women police officers will be arranged to ensure the safety of women and children. Under the leadership of the Irrigation Department, warning boards will be installed at major river ghats including Kozhencherry and Nedumprayar. The safety of the temporary footbridge and approach roads at the convention venue will be inspected.
If required, the water level of the river will be regulated. The Kerala State Electricity Board (KSEB) will ensure uninterrupted power supply at the convention venue and in Maramon and Kozhencherry areas, and streetlight maintenance will be completed.
The Health Department will arrange a temporary dispensary and ambulance services at the convention venue. Adequate doctors and paramedical staff will be deployed at the Kozhencherry Government Hospital. Disinfection and sanitation activities will be carried out at the venue. Health cards will be mandatory for employees working in food stalls.
The Public Works Department (Roads Division) will complete maintenance works on all roads leading to the convention venue. The safety of the temporary pandal and stage will be inspected and certified by the PWD (Buildings Division). A modern fire unit will be deployed, and scuba diving team services will also be available. Round-the-clock water supply will be ensured at the venue.
KSRTC will operate special services from various depots, including special night services towards the Thiruvalla side. The Excise Department will take strict action to prevent the sale of spurious liquor and banned narcotic substances in and around the convention venue. The Electrical Inspectorate will inspect the temporary electrical installations at the pandal, ensure safety, and issue the required certification.
To coordinate the activities of various government departments, the Thiruvalla Sub-Collector and the Adoor RDO have been appointed.
