business100news: Health Minister Veena George said that the state government has achieved a historic achievement in the field of medical education in Kerala. The minister was inaugurating various projects completed at a cost of Rs 50 crore at Konni Medical College. During the tenure of this government, new medical colleges were started in Pathanamthitta, Kasaragod, Wayanad and Idukki districts. 21 nursing colleges were also started. The government’s policy is to make medical education possible for all those who are eligible on merit with the utmost convenience. Steps are underway to make postgraduate studies possible in Konni.
A comprehensive change has been achieved in the health sector in the district. Development works worth crores are progressing in government hospitals in various parts of the district. The heart transplant surgery at Ernakulam District Hospital has created history. The infant mortality rate in Attappady has come down from 28.3 to 6.8.
Konni Medical College, which was approved in 2022, is undergoing the second phase of development work worth Rs 351.72 crore by including it in KIIFB. The construction of Type A and C quarters, two hospital blocks, an auditorium, etc. is in progress. Currently, 400 medical students are studying in four batches. Konni Medical College is making its development dream a reality by ensuring modern standards of treatment and education. The Minister also said that the district stadium, which is being constructed at a cost of Rs 50 crore, will soon be dedicated to the nation.
Chairman KU Janeesh Kumar MLA said that the district has created miracles in the health sector. The growth of Konni Medical College, which is the pride of Pathanamthitta, is a model for Kerala. The infrastructure development of the hospital has been possible at a rapid pace. The construction of good quality roads to the hospital is progressing. The construction of the medical college KSRTC bus stand will be completed in February, the MLA said.
Medical Education Director Dr. K. V. Viswanathan presented the report. The Minister presented to the nation the Academic Block Phase II, Administrative Block, constructed at a cost of Rs. 22.80 crore through KIIFB, Type D Quarters with 40 apartments constructed at a cost of Rs. 16.25 crore, Type B Quarters with 40 apartments constructed at a cost of Rs. 9.10 crore, Dean Villa constructed on two floors at a cost of Rs. 1.05 crore, and Medical ICU with 17 beds constructed at a cost of Rs. 84 lakh.
