Speaking on the occasion, Shri George Kurian stated that Indian Railways is committed to improving services and facilities for the people of Kerala. He noted that this new MEMU service, along with the ongoing infrastructure developments, will greatly strengthen regional connectivity and provide passengers with safe, reliable, and comfortable travel options
This MEMU service will provide a convenient and reliable travel option for daily commuters in the Shoranur–Nilambur section. The service is expected to benefit thousands of passengers, improve regional connectivity, and ease travel for office-goers, students, and traders. The introduction of MEMU services has been made possible after the successful electrification of the Shoranur–Nilambur section in December 2024 and the completion of the MEMU trial run in February 2025.
Alongside this new service, the section has witnessed several developments. Three major stations—Shoranur Junction, Angadippuram, and Nilambur Road—are being upgraded with modern passenger facilities under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme. Two new crossing stations are also under construction at Kulukkalur and Melattur, which will enhance operational efficiency by enabling the handling of 23-coach trains. Additional coaches have been introduced in popular trains such as the Kottayam–Nilambur Express, and new stoppages have been provided at Pattikkad, Kulukkalur, and Melattur for the convenience of passengers. Platform extensions and lifts at Shoranur Junction have further improved passenger amenities.
