U.S. President Donald Trump announced that the United States had carried out an attack on Venezuela and had captured President Nicolás Maduro and his wife. Trump made the announcement to the world through Truth Social, the social media platform he owns. According to his post, the U.S. launched attacks in Caracas, Miranda, Aragua, and La Guaira.

Trump further claimed that following a large-scale U.S. attack on the Venezuelan capital, Caracas, Nicolás Maduro was captured and deported out of Venezuela.

“The United States has successfully carried out a massive strike against Venezuela and its leader, President Nicolás Maduro. He and his wife have been captured and expelled from the country. This operation was conducted in coordination with U.S. law enforcement agencies,” Trump wrote on Truth Social.

Reports state that explosions were carried out by the U.S. at seven locations, including Caracas. Following the attacks, a national state of emergency was declared in the country. The Fort Tiuna military base in Caracas was reportedly attacked.

Trump had allegedly granted permission to the CIA to take action against the Maduro government, and the U.S. Navy was deployed in the Caribbean Sea. Venezuela demanded that an emergency meeting of the United Nations Security Council be convened to discuss the U.S. attacks.
